CPU is Xeon not Core.
Mobo has dual Ethernet, PC speaker, a POST code display, and all the video connectors (VGA, DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI).
The original ASRock H87M motherboard failed with silent corruption problems in 2018. It was hard to find a suitable replacement. This was the best I could do, an open box board from Newegg.
The CPU is overheating despite not overclocking. The airflow is not ideal as the side vent is in the wrong place relative to the CPU.
Microcode must be updated early to avoid hard lockups. Setup often locks up when saving changes because no microcode update can be loaded.
ALC892 is 7.1 but thus far I have confirmed only stereo. There are three analog jacks labelled line in, front speaker, and microphone. Reassignment of the jacks is not documented in the mobo manual. The linked product page says "All analog jacks (port-A to port-G) are stereo input and output re-tasking."
Not unique to this PC, but Firefox is unable to display 4k video on the Intel integrated graphics without stuttering and dropping frames. No such trouble occurs when mpv plays 4k video to igfx. It has nothing to do with hwdec. I added the AMD GPU to work around the problem (successfully).
The WiFi works well but is using an out-of-tree kernel module. This might be resolved in kernel 6.13.
